The #1 question we get: "Does microblading hurt?"
The honest answer: mildly uncomfortable, far less than most clients expect, and entirely manageable.
What It Actually Feels Like
A light scratching sensation — comparable to a cat gently scratching your eyebrow. Most clients rate it a 2–4 out of 10 on the pain scale.
Why It's Not More Painful
We use a strong topical numbing cream before and during the procedure:
- Initial numbing: 20 minutes before we start
- Secondary numbing: Applied once the skin is "broken" — at this point, the numbing absorbs much deeper, and the procedure becomes near-painless
Factors That Affect Discomfort
- Sensitive skin: Slightly more sensation
- Menstrual cycle: Some clients are more sensitive right before or during period — consider scheduling around it
- Caffeine intake: Avoid 12 hours before — it thins your blood
- Anxiety: Being tense increases perceived pain. Deep breaths help.
Compared to Other Beauty Procedures
Microblading is widely considered less painful than: - Threading or waxing - Laser hair removal - Getting your ears pierced - Lip fillers without topical numbing
It's a quick, one-time discomfort for 1–3 years of flawless brows. Worth it.
