Aftercare makes or breaks microblading. A perfect procedure with poor aftercare = uneven, faded, patchy results. A good procedure with excellent aftercare = hyper-natural brows that last years.
The First 10 Days Are Everything
Do: - Keep brows completely dry for 7–10 days - Gently blot any lymph fluid on day 1 with a clean tissue - Sleep on your back or side, away from brows - Apply aftercare balm sparingly (1x daily) - Shield brows in the shower with a cloth or your hand
Don't: - Get brows wet (water activates and lifts pigment) - Touch, scratch, or rub your brows - Pick at scabs (causes patchy healing) - Use makeup, skincare, or sunscreen on brows - Sweat heavily — sweat contains salt which lifts pigment - Swim, sauna, steam, or take hot yoga classes - Sleep face-down
Weeks 2–4
After scabs naturally fall off: - Resume gentle face washing — just avoid direct rubbing on brow area - Skip retinol, vitamin C, AHAs/BHAs on brow area for 30 days - Apply sunscreen on brows every day (SPF 30+) - Expect "ghosting" — brows look lighter than final
Long-Term Care
- Daily SPF on brows — the single biggest longevity factor
- Avoid direct harsh sun exposure on brows (hats help)
- Keep retinol and glycolic acid off brow area
- Schedule your 6–8 week touch-up before you leave the studio
- Annual refreshes maintain density for years
Red Flags to Watch For
If you notice yellow/green discharge, fever, significant pain, or expanding redness — contact a doctor. These are signs of infection, not normal healing.
Normal: dark color, mild swelling, patchy fade, flaking. Not normal: persistent pain, pus, hot tender skin.
